Bracket Bonanza 2010, The Best Ever

They say that things get better with age, whether it be wine or a long traditional drag race, and that was proven this past weekend as the 30th annual Bracket Bonanza lived up to everything and more of what it is famous for.

For some drivers it was there first trip to the big dollar winners circles, for some it was winning their first Wally, something every drag racer wants to do. But one thing was very apparent this year, everyone that was there had a great time, the racing was incredible, the weather was incredible, the turnout was incredible and the party atmosphere was like no other year. Things was really shaping up too for the big one when the weather forecast was the best we have ever had for the BB, and it lived up too its hype as wall too wall sunshine greeted everyone who arrived as early as Thursday until the last race car hauler left on Monday, nothing but clear skies and perfect weather. By the time racing got underway on Friday at 4:00 the pits where already over flowing with haulers and campers, some where parked 3/4’s of the way past the quarter mile finish line, but no one seemed to mind as everyone was ready for a great weekend. Things kicked off Friday Night with the $10,000. high rollers super pro race where current Luskville Dragway Points leader Troy Davis made his way to the finals where he would meet and defeat Tom Orr and his similar rear engine dragster. The Semi Pro High Rollers was only $2500. to win but Gord Harling of Sudbury said “Thank you very Much” as he kicked his weekend off in fine fashion and the win. The regular gamblers race was won by Jessica Tandy and her Jesse’s Toy Nova.

Saturday got under way with more race cars showing up and more squeezing in the pits to fit them in, but fit them in we did. With more US based drivers and more Montreal, Quebec City Drivers present than at anytime in the past the locals and the tour regulars new they had their work cut out for them for sure. However when things got down too the finals in Super Pro and Semi Pro a couple of Tour regulars had made their way to that portion of the program. Fred Ellis from Southern Ontario, and a driver who is no stranger to the winners circle made his way to the starting line to take on Luskville Dragway regular Daryl Jensen, and Fred would prevail and take home $2000. for his efforts. For Jensen it was his second bridesmaid appearance as he had done the same in the Semi Pro high rollers on Friday Night, however he was off to a pretty good money start for the weekend. Super Pro would see Jamie Tupper also of Southern Ontario make his way to the line to run Kyle Jessup in the Finals, Tupper would set up what was going to be a great weekend by taking the win light and the $10,000 that came with it, Randy Urslak was the lone semi finalist. In the Sled/Bike class Justin Prevost of Sudbury would take out Rob Graveline for the win and Tyler Pike would beat Jacob Wilson for the win in Jr. Dragsters. The Jrs. was one of the most impressive showing of cars that the track has ever had and they put on a great show. Following the racing the party really got underway as 400 drivers, crew members took part in a steak bar-b-que and also enjoyed the music of Hyrd Guns.

Sunday once again dawned SUNNING and nice and everyone was geared up for some excellent racing and excellent racing they got as this years BB had some of the fastest and best looking cars ever. Sunday was even more special as the winners would receive Wally’s for their victories, and Semi Pro was running for $5000. instead of $2000. And here is where a Montreal racer shinned, Fredrick McDonald took his blue Camaro to the final where he would meet Marc Sauvé, McDonald who had been cutting great lights all weekend long did not let down in the Finals as he and his crew went wild with their big win. The McDonald team was one of many who had too pit nearly at the end of the race track property but did not let that get in their way, or hamper them from their biggest win ever. So now the stage was set for Super Pro, was it possible for someone to double up with this many great race cars present, the answer would come pretty quickly as the semi finals rolled around, there was the red dragster of Jamie Tupper going up against the door car of Darien Frasso, and yep Tupper would take the win and go to the finals. The other side of the ladder had quite a story also, as Josse Mongeon and her Husband Brain White where out for the first time in about 6 years with their brand new dragster. And she continued to keep the dream weekend going as she beat Kyle Jessup who was driving a borrowed Camaro as he had broke his rear dragster in qualifying early in the day. In the finals it was all over quickly as Tupper took the win light and made it his best pay weekend ever. The Tupper Team are one of the best like teams anywhere, as they are quick to help, lend or what ever it takes to help all racers out, yes even though many where hoping for two different winners no one was disappointed that this team did what many thought could not happen. Jr. Dragster where once again show cased as all where presented with a special participation trophy, and Kenyon Payne added another one when he met and defeated Tyler Pike in the finals. The sled Finals once again had a Sudbury winner take home the money as J.Scarrow beat North Bays Serge Lapierre in the finals. Two special awards where given to Mario Martel and his Castrol GTX team for best dressed crew and Frank Mark Jr, was presented with the fan voted on Best Appearing Car Award. So another BB goes into the books and I can honestly say this was the best ever, perfect weather, perfect racing, a record turnout of race cars and spectators for the entire weekend will put this years addition into the memory books for a long time.
